Democracy Prevails For American Airlines Passenger Service
Agents As Union Election Is Scheduled
Washington, DC – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA)
applauded today’s decision by the National Mediation Board (NMB)
to schedule a union election for the 9,700 passenger service
agents at American Airlines. For months, airline management has
been stalling an election for representation by the
Communications Workers of America (CWA) through a series of
legal maneuvers.
“It seems fitting that as our country gears up to celebrate our
democracy next week on Election Day, our fellow frontline
aviation professionals will have another opportunity to have
their voices heard. As airline management continues to navigate
through bankruptcy, American Airlines Passenger Service Agents
want the protections that a legally binding contract provides.
They want the ability to work with management on rebuilding the
carrier, not to be sidelined from the process. Today, we stand
together with our sisters and brothers as they have an
opportunity to achieve the best protections for passenger
service agents during bankruptcy and a better future at American
Airlines,” said Veda Shook, AFA International President.
Voting instructions will be mailed on December 4 with a count
date scheduled for January 15, 2013.
The Association of Flight Attendants is the world’s largest
Flight Attendant union. Focused 100 percent on Flight Attendant
issues, AFA has been the leader in advancing the Flight
Attendant profession for 67 years. Serving as the voice for
Flight Attendants in the workplace, in the aviation industry, in
the media and on Capitol Hill, AFA has transformed the Flight
Attendant profession by raising wages, benefits and working
conditions. Nearly 60,000 Flight Attendants come together to
form AFA, part of the 700,000-member strong Communications
Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO. Visit us at
