Flight Attendant Union Forms US Airways Labor Alliance

Washington, DC – Flight Attendants from US Airways, America West, Piedmont, PSA, Mesaba, Mesa and Air Wisconsin joined together this week to form the US Airways Flight Attendant Labor Alliance. The Alliance, formed by Flight Attendants who are represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) and work at carriers who transport US Airways passengers, was created to coordinate strategically on negotiations. The union leaders from each US Airways subsidiary and regional service provider issued the following statement on behalf of the 8,500 Flight Attendants they represent:

“Flight Attendants at carriers flying under the US Airways banner have dedicated their careers to ensuring the safety and security of the traveling public. As first responders in the aircraft and the last line of defense, Flight Attendants have made great contributions to the overall success of the company.

“Management lined their pockets as the company reported its second-highest profit ever of nearly $600 million.  Still, labor troubles continued to loom. The US Airways Flight Attendant Labor Alliance is committed to working together to collaborate on common issues and to send a strong message to management that it is time Flight Attendants are fairly compensated and provided with the working conditions and well earned standard of living they deserve.

“The vast contributions from Flight Attendants have enabled the company to navigate successfully through difficult financial times and into profitability. It is past time for US Airways Group management to recognize the dedication and loyalty of the Flight Attendants and engage in meaningful collective bargaining.”

The Association of Flight Attendants is the world’s largest Flight Attendant union. Focused 100 percent on Flight Attendant issues, AFA has been the leader in advancing the Flight Attendant profession for over 65 years. Serving as the voice for Flight Attendants in the workplace, in the aviation industry, in the media and on Capitol Hill, AFA has transformed the Flight Attendant profession by raising wages, benefits and working conditions.  Nearly 60,000 Flight Attendants at 23 airlines come together to form AFA, part of the 700,000-member strong Communications Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO.
