Flight Attendants Disappointed with Proposed FAA Extension

Washington, DC (July 8, 2016) — The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) is disappointed with the proposed FAA Extension which ignores important safety policies including 10 hours minimum rest and a fatigue risk management plan (FRMP) for Flight Attendants. AFA International President Sara Nelson today sent a letter to Congressional Transportation leaders:

“The members of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), are deeply disappointed that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization extension released yesterday failed to include a critical safety provision to provide 10 hours of minimum rest and a fatigue risk management plan (FRMP) for all Flight Attendants.

“Loopholes in aviation safety are dangerous and it is unacceptable that another year will go by without correcting this critical safety provision. Flight Attendants are aviation’s first responders. We are entrusted with the safety, health and security of passengers on a daily basis. We will continue to fight to ensure we have adequate rest periods that cannot be arbitrarily reduced. This aviation safety shortfall can wait no longer to be fixed.”
