Help AFA Members Affected by Hurricane Sandy

November 2, 2012

East Coast Operations Resume
As airlines work to resume normal operations following the massive disruption caused by Hurricane Sandy, AFA is in close touch with our airlines to address operational issues, as many Flight Attendants have been displaced by the destructive forces of the storm.

AFA members affected by Hurricane Sandy need our help. We encourage all members who are able to please donate to the AFA Disaster Relief Fund to provide assistance to our flying partners in New York and New Jersey who were affected by the storm.

The generosity of AFA members helps us support our own – 100% of the funds go to members in need.

AFA established the disaster relief fund after September 11th to assist our members whose lives were placed in harm’s way.

The AFA Disaster Relief Fund is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization that is separate from AFA’s operating funds. This fund provides a means for AFA members to assist other members who have suffered damage, loss and relocation as a result of disaster. The fund is open for distribution once a presidential declaration for individual assistance is declared.

The AFA Disaster Assistance fund is available to AFA members with primary residence in the following counties of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut:

New Jersey – Atlantic, Cape May, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Union.

New York – Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Richmond, Suffolk and Queens.

Connecticut (newest addition) – Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven and New London.

As states continue to conduct assessments of Sandy’s damage, they may request assistance for their residents. The AFA Disaster Relief Fund will expand eligibility for members in other states and counties should presidential declarations identify the need for such assistance. To request assistance from the fund, complete the application at www.afacwa.org. Funds will be distributed as long as they remain available. Additional information about the relief fund can be obtained from AFA EAP at 1-800-424-2406. Please feel free to contact the AFA EAP to see if eligibility has expanded to other states and counties.
