Flight Attendant Union Re-Elects Sara Nelson as President, Two New Officers in Historic Election
Las Vegas, NV (May 16, 2022) – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) directly-elected leaders from 17 airlines today re-elected Sara Nelson as International President by acclamation to serve the new four year term. Keturah Johnson was elected as International Vice President and Dante Harris as International Secretary-Treasurer, both for first terms.
"Some may call these times desperate. We can recognize them as a call to action. In the worst of times, working people have risen up to achieve our greatest gains. Stronger together, better together is not just our slogan; it is our calling,” said Nelson.
Sara Nelson is a twenty-five year United Airlines Flight Attendant and has served as AFA International President since June 1, 2014. Two new officers will take office with Nelson on June 1st. Keturah Johnson, a 35 year old queer woman of color, combat veteran from Piedmont Airlines was elected as International Vice President. Dante Harris, a 44 year old black United Airlines Flight Attendant, was elected International Secretary-Treasurer. This historic officer team is the most diverse in the union's history.
AFA’s annual Board of Directors Convention is in session in Las Vegas, where Frontier, Spirit and United Airlines have Flight Attendant bases.
