AFA Calls on Congress to Invest and Support ATC, Stop the Cuts

March 7, 2025 - Earlier this week, the House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Aviation Subcommittee held a hearing on our nation’s air traffic control system infrastructure and staffing.

AFA submitted a statement for the record calling on members of Congress to listen to the frontline workers who know the air traffic control system best, how to fix it, and what it needs.

Our statement reads in part:

We applaud and support this Committee’s focus on the safest, most efficient National Airspace System in the world. Safety and security doesn’t just happen. It is the product of our collective mission to make it happen. We encourage you to continue to look to the experts on the frontlines, promote sufficient and steady funding to staff, maintain, and modernize our workplace. The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA is committed to fulfilling this mission with you and all of our partners in aviation safety, health, and security.

Read the full statement here.

This statement is a part of our continued advocacy in Washington to ensure Flight Attendant priorities are represented in government. Just last month, we joined a coalition of airline unions and aviation industry stakeholders in a letter to Congress to express our continued commitment to a safe, resilient, and modernized air traffic control system. And last year, we were critical players in ensuring that the FAA Reauthorization Act included Flight Attendant priorities and key safety initiatives.

The current administration has proven that they have no regard for the lifesaving work aviation workers do. Instead, they are using the FAA as a get-rich-quick scheme for the richest man in the world, awarding his companies contracts while refusing to visit the crash site of the deadliest US aviation crash in years. We will continue to fight fiercely against any policy that makes our aviation system less safe.
