AFA Celebrates Jewish American Heritage Month

May 1, 2024 - Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) is not just a month of celebration, but a dedicated time to recognize and honor the remarkable achievements and contributions of American Jews to the United States of America. Starting in 2006, JAHM honors the culture and experience of Jewish Americans, inviting everyone to join in this celebration of diversity.

The Jewish community in America has played a significant role in shaping the country's culture. Their impact can be seen in various fields, such as politics, entertainment, arts, philanthropy, education, food, commerce, and more. According to the American Jewish Population Project, the United States is home to roughly 7.6 million Jews, which make up 2.4% of the population. Nearly half of them reside in only three states - New York, California, and Florida.

The month of May was chosen because of the highly successful celebration of the 350th Anniversary of American Jewish History in May 2004, which is a testament to this month's inclusivity.
