November 8, 2024 — We observe this Veterans Day with deep gratitude for those who have served and those who continue to serve, especially our own AFA member veterans and all of their families who support them. We are honored to fly with our veterans.
Happy Veteran's Day! Watch this message from our very own Veteran, AFA International Vice President Keturah Johnson.
AFA is proud to support the Union Veterans Council, AFL-CIO that brings working-class veterans together to speak out on the issues that impact us most, especially the need for good jobs and a strong, fully funded and staffed Veterans Administration. We owe it to our Veterans to ensure their rights to a good job and good healthcare are secure with union contracts and the rights of working people to safe workplaces and an equal voice in our democracy.
In Solidarity,
Sara, Keturah, Dante
International Officers
We asked AFA Veterans to share their story:
BRENT A., Navy
Alaska, SAN
On how his military service assisted being a Flight Attendant: “I know aviation. I was an Air Combat Controller talking to Maverick and Goose. I have been in combat and stressful situations that have honed my ability to respond to emergencies and think outside the box. I am confident in my abilities. I can take leadership roles or work as a loyal teammate supporting those who I work with. I have traveled the world and look forward every day to the funnest job I ever had.”
CATHY T, Marines
United, LAX
On what she wants people to know about veterans: “We are a very diverse group of people who all joined for different reasons. Ultimately you share a bond through shared experiences, especially challenging times. Some of it is similar to the Flight Attendant community—you bond over missing home, dealing with long hours, and finding humor in tough situations.”
Gordon S., Army
United, SFO
On why he’s thankful to be part of AFA: “I appreciate the people that serve in our union. Because like soldiers fighting for people they’ll never meet, our union does the same in a way to better other Flight Attendants' lives!”
