Dear Flying Partners,
Happy New Year. Together with your new International Officers Vice President Sara Nelson and Secretary-Treasurer Kevin Creighan we are ready to take on the critical issues facing our proud profession and ready to make the most out of every means to improve our careers. We are, first and foremost, proud to be Flight Attendants.
Sara and Kevin share my desire to make our Washington office your union office. We look forward to making our work more transparent and connected to you. As we begin this leadership transition some changes will occur immediately and others will be rolled out over time. Together with you we will develop a new direction for our union - always based on priorities set by Flight Attendants.
After nearly a decade mired in an economic downturn, our industry is rebounding in no small part due to the contributions made by Flight Attendants. Mergers are reshaping our industry and creating opportunity for gains for Flight Attendants. Together we can lead the way in rebuilding wages and contracts, and advancing our profession. We must be full partners, sharing in the economic revival of our industry. And, our union must lead the way in preparing for the future.
We have an incredible support team in Washington DC with experts who work full time on our issues as Flight Attendants. From our support staff in Safety and Government Affairs to our professional negotiators and attorneys, we are 100 percent focused on improving the lives of Flight Attendants and supporting the goals we set collectively as members of AFA.
You are the heart and soul of our union. That's why we are dedicating time in the first few months to speak directly with you. Please check afacwa.org for the Regional Member Forum schedule or call your Local Council for details and make plans to join the discussion.
This year we will be telling our important story, publicly promoting our work as first responders and highlighting the unique skills we possess, that bring extraordinary value to our jobs. There are thousands of examples of heroic acts performed by Flight Attendants and millions of examples where, every day, a Flight Attendant is seen as someone's hero. These stories are compelling and with your help we will tell them.
Please take a few moments to watch a video message about this campaign and the opportunities before us. With this video we I hope to begin a discussion with you and I look forward to hearing from you often, directly or through your local leaders.
I want you to know that your union is in your corner, making sure you get the credit - and the rewards - for the great job you do every day.
It's a new day for our Flight Attendant union.
In Solidarity,
Veda Shook International President Association of Flight Attendants-CWA |
