AFA New Leader Training in Washington, D.C., November 2019
November 22, 2019 — Newly elected AFA leaders came to Washington, D.C. this week for initial training before they take office on January 1, 2020.
This week consisted of an overview of AFA structure and introduction of AFA Departments and professional staff including Legal, Collective Bargaining, AFA EAP/Professional Standards, Air Safety, Health & Security, Government Affairs, Membership, Accounting and Communications. Training continues in February with leadership development classes and a review of initial weeks in office.
New leaders also took part in two picket lines, the first at DCA to end the discriminatory wage and work rule policies that our regional flying partners face compared to those of mainline Flight Attendants. The second picket was to support our sisters and brothers at Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 who have been on strike for a fair contract for over a month.
