AFA Statement on CDC International Testing Requirement

From Taylor Garland, Association of Flight Attendants-CWA spokesperson, representing nearly 50,000 Flight Attendants at 17 airlines:

“Aviation is safest when we take a layered approach. The CDC's new international travel testing requirement is good news for the safety and health of our passengers and crew. Testing reduces some risk, but is only as accurate as that moment in time. That's why testing must be combined with strict mask compliance, reduced or eliminated onboard service, and robust cleaning procedures to help slow the spread of COVID-19 on planes and in our communities.

"We hope this announcement is an indication of a more proactive and fulsome federal response to COVID in aviation and beyond. Almost a year in, we still do not have basic federal safety requirements such as a mask mandate. We're eager to get to work with the Biden administration to protect aviation workers and passengers.”
