AFA Statement on New HEROES Act
Washington, D.C. (September 28, 2020) — U.S. House of Representatives Democrats and Speaker Nancy Pelosi released a new, $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief bill today that includes an extension of the Payroll Support Program to prevent mass furloughs in aviation on October 1:
“The deadline of mass job loss on October 1 and the non-stop action of aviation workers calling on lawmakers to act has created urgency in Washington and enormous bipartisan agreement. The new introduction of the House HEROES Act, including a six month extension of the aviation Payroll Support Program, is a significant and serious move in negotiations. It makes agreement on a full relief bill very possible in time to save our jobs. Everyone agrees the loss of aviation jobs, air service to our communities, and a dismantling of critical infrastructure cannot happen weeks before this election. Inaction is not an option. We encourage the parties to reach an agreement immediately to put in place #ReliefNow for the whole country.“
