AFA Urges Congress to Finalize Emergency Relief Package
WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 18, 2020) — The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) released the following statement on the nearing COVID-19 relief deal:
“This week, Congressional leadership took up bipartisan efforts to lock in a long-overdue emergency relief deal. This relief is needed NOW. You can’t rewind people’s lives after they lose their homes or their healthcare. For Flight Attendants and aviation workers, emergency relief right now will mean their jobs, pay, and healthcare are restored, and for tens of millions it will mean extension of live-saving unemployment benefits and survival checks.
“AFA Flight Attendants have made over 43,000 calls, sent nearly 100,000 letters and held 32 #ReliefNow events in 24 cities driving 470 media stories and nearly 116 TV news stories demanding real, full relief for all working Americans. The efforts secured overwhelming bipartisan support to extend the #WorkersFirst Payroll Support Program and provide relief to Americans across the country. Our union refused to accept the idea that relief for Americans was politically impossible. Aviation workers set our demands and fought for what we need. Much more relief will be needed, but tens of millions of families are teetering on the edge of disaster at this moment and cannot wait. Now is the time to act, and reject any attempts to block economic recovery in the New Year.
