Aviation Workers Lead Charge to Win Aviation Worker Sick Leave Inclusion in Illinois

October 29, 2021 - Last night, the Illinois State Legislature passed HB 106 that will eliminate an unjust exemption that prevents aviation workers from utilizing sick leave to care for a family member or committed partner, rights that were granted to all other Illinois workers under the Illinois Sick Leave Act of 2017. Next, the bill heads to Gov. Pritzker's desk.

Special thanks to the Flight Attendants of United Council 8, Air Wisconsin Council 3, Envoy Council 51, Spirit Council 77, CWA Passenger Service Agents, ALPA, TWU, and APFA who never stopped making calls, emails and advocating in Springfield.

“It’s time for airlines and other employers to get on board and stop fighting against basic rights for the workers who make their companies profitable,” said Sara Nelson, AFA-CWA International President. “We are so grateful for the leadership of Speaker Welch and Senate Majority Whip Hastings.”
