Call Now: Stop Cuts to Medicaid
May 31, 2025 - Senators are currently considering a sweeping budget package that would gut Medicaid to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and corporations. The budget also includes the largest-ever cuts to SNAP food assistance and cuts to federal workers’ earned retirement benefits.
In short, this budget is a disaster for Flight Attendants and our families. Taking away funding from Medicaid doesn’t just impact health care coverage. Medicaid also provides critical funding for hospitals, community health centers, and nursing homes. In fact, Medicaid is the primary payer for 63% of nursing home residents. Without this funding hospitals and nursing homes will close - affecting everyone, not just those using Medicaid benefits.
This would have devastating impacts on millions of the most vulnerable Americans, including AFA members who depend on Medicaid, our parents who use Medicaid-funded facilities, and our children enrolled in Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Cuts to Medicaid put Flight Attendant families and our whole healthcare system at risk.
Taking away Medicaid funding is just another attempt to tear up the social safety net, especially earned benefits for workers. If the bill passes the Senate, Congress would literally be taking away funding from children and the elderly to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and mega-corporations.
