Celebrate Juneteenth with Action This Year

June 18, 2020 — Tomorrow, Friday, June 19, marks the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth, otherwise known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day. Although the Emancipation was signed almost two and half years before, it wasn’t until this day in 1865 that the remaining 250,000 people who had been enslaved were liberated in Texas. Newly “Freed” Black women and men turned this day into a celebration establishing Juneteenth.

In honor of Juneteenth this year, and in response to the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless other Black people who have been killed at the hands of police, AFA is joining together with the Movement for Black Lives for a weekend of action. This Juneteenth is a rare moment for us to join together and proclaim in one voice that Black Lives Matter.

Over 200 events starting tomorrow through the weekend are being held across the country and world. We urge Flight Attendants to be safe by taking necessary COVID-19 precautions and to participate in ways that will keep you, your families and flying partners safe.
