Celebrating Black History Month and Black Aviation Professionals Day
February 14, 2025 - AFA is highlighting Flight Attendant leaders and activists during Black History Month and we want to include you or a flying partner!
Submit a recommendation to spotlight your flying partners here or send your ABC (All Black Crew) pictures to [email protected].
This week, we highlighted Flight Attendants from Norse and Spirit.
“Jhen is an incredible force within our union. I've had the privilege of getting to know her through the AFA International Human Rights & Equity (HRE) Committee, through which we were able to develop a training on gender and sex diversity, presenting it at the CWA Human Rights Conference in 2024. She plays a significant role in Norse AFA, as both the Communications Chair and HRE Chair, and managing the differences associated with working for a European carrier.” — Tara Cattell, United AFA Council 6
“Kathryn has been involved in AFA for many years. She dedicates much of her time to making sure her fellow Union siblings are represented.” — Antonio Mancheno, Spirit AFA Council 76 President
We also celebrate Black Aviation Professionals Day this weekend. It’s a day to celebrate Black excellence in aviation. Black aviators — including pilots, air traffic controllers, skycaps, Flight Attendants, ground crew members, and more — are instrumental to the aviation industry’s success, overcoming often insurmountable odds.
Decades after trailblazers like Ruth Carol Taylor and Willa Brown made history in aviation, Black workers still face barriers to entry and discrimination on the job. Today is about breaking barriers and lifting the strength of an inclusive workplace.
