DOL Responds to United Management’s Attempt to Deny Sick Leave Rights
July 26, 2024 —United Flight Attendants keep United Airlines flying every day. Our United AFA Siblings deserve respect and a contract that reflects their worth. Instead, management sent an offensive, accusatory, and deflecting scheduling alert email — in the midst of the CrowdStrike meltdown — requiring absence certificates when sick over a weekend. This blanket requirement of all Flight Attendants is a violation of the contract and the law.
Violating the current Contract makes clear United management has no intention of negotiating the long overdue next Contract. We see this disrespect for Flight Attendants at the negotiating table and that’s why United Flight Attendants are taking a strike vote.
Management’s arrogance and disrespect toward us is a sickness that spread to any of our airlines if they think they can get away with it. We have to stand together to push back. Their attempts to divide us and demoralize us with distractions and delays ends now!
AFA Legal has been in contact with the Department of Labor, which just announced that it is looking into this attempt to deny workers sick leave rights. Read our press release. If you’re a United Flight Attendant, send a letter to management here.
