Eastern Airlines Flight Attendants Organize for an Election to Join the Flight Attendant Union
Union Cards Submitted to Federal Agency on March 17
Washington, DC (March 17, 2022) — The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), on behalf of Eastern Airlines Flight Attendants, filed on Thursday for a union representation election. Eastern Flight Attendants demonstrated overwhelming support for AFA with signed authorization cards asking for an election. Now they eagerly await the National Mediation Board (NMB) to call for an election.
“We are excited for Eastern Flight Attendants to join with us to raise the standards for all Flight Attendants,” said Sara Nelson, AFA International President. “Eastern Flight Attendants are organizing for a voice on the job. Safety. Humane duty and rest rules. Adequate pay and healthcare.”
The NMB is the federal agency that oversees union representation elections for air and rail workers. Once the NMB verifies the signed union authorization cards submitted by AFA, an election will be called. A schedule for the voting period will be announced by the NMB.
Following a bankruptcy and restructuring, Dynamic International Airways obtained a license from Swift Air to use the Eastern name. Dynamic was then rebranded as Eastern Airlines. Today, Eastern Airlines operates as a scheduled carrier employing 65 U.S.-based and 35 International-based Flight Attendants in Miami, New York, Ecuador, Guyana, and Venezuela.
