Washington, DC (January 16, 2017) – As our nation celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) International President Sara Nelson said:

“We in the Labor Movement will always have a special affinity for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His advocacy for racial and economic justice made the connection – for all workers – between civil rights and workers’ rights.

“Dr. King’s legacy of mobilization for civil rights taught generations of activists – in the women’s movement, the Labor Movement, and other social justice causes – how to bring our issues to the top of the nation’s agenda. His astounding success against overwhelming odds showed all of us what can be achieved when our cause is justice and we stand together.

“This year, as many Flight Attendants prepare to join the Women’s March on Washington, Dr. King’s own words ring in our ears:

“We cannot walk alone. And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back.”

“Women will not turn back. Workers will not turn back. Together we will always march ahead. We are stronger together. We are better together.”
