Flight Attendant Union Protects American Eagle Flight Attendant Jobs
Washington, DC – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) this week was successful in securing contractual voluntary leave options for American Eagle Flight Attendants who wish take time away from work. This voluntary furlough program was announced after American Eagle management announced plans to shutter a portion of the operation, displacing over 100 Flight Attendants.
“AFA will continue to focus on protecting Flight Attendants and their families,” said Robert Barrow, AFA president at American Eagle. “In the midst of this difficult time, we will ensure Flight Attendants are included in the process to restructure. Every American Eagle Flight Attendant is invested in the success of the airline and it is gratifying that we are able to provide protections for even our most junior members.”
The AFA American Eagle contract provides protections for a voluntary furlough with benefits prior to any Flight Attendant being subject to involuntary furlough. AFA leadership at American Eagle is committed to working with management for innovative and creative ways to help reduce the impact of the bankruptcy process on Flight Attendants. In addition, AFA has retained bankruptcy counsel with Kennedy, Jennik & Murray, drawing on the New York firm’s extensive experience representing unions in bankruptcy. AFA represents over 1,500 Flight Attendants at American Eagle.
“It is important that we get through this process expeditiously, yet cautiously, so that we can once again focus on a brighter future for all American Eagle Flight Attendants,” added Barrow.
