Flight Attendants Applaud Bi-Partisan Budget Amendment To Keep Knives Out Of Aircraft Cabin
Washington, DC – The Coalition of Flight Attendant Unions, representing 90,000 Flight Attendants, is marshaling support for an amendment to the budget resolution submitted by U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) that would prohibit the Transportation Security Administration from allowing airline passengers to carry small knives onto airplanes.
Flight Attendants applaud the bipartisan move by Senators Schumer and Murkowski to oppose blades on board. Aviation security is not divided by party lines. All people have an interest in maintaining the most secure aviation system in the world. The Coalition is urging Senators to support the Schumer/Murkowski amendment during this evening’s vote-o-rama.
Air Marshals, Pilots, Transportation Security Officers and airline CEOs agree with Flight Attendants. The people on the front lines of aviation security know the abrupt policy change to allow knives in the cabin is a terrible move. Flight Attendants will continue to escalate tactics in opposition until commonsense prevails and the ban on knives is maintained.
