Flight Attendants at Eastern Airlines Vote Overwhelmingly to Join AFA-CWA

Washington, DC — Flight Attendants at Eastern Airlines have overwhelmingly voted to join the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA in an election certified today by the National Mediation Board.

“Eastern Flight Attendants have spoken loudly and clearly,” said AFA International President Sara Nelson. “Our entire union is thrilled to welcome them, and ready to work shoulder-to-shoulder to negotiate a contract that gives them real voice on the job, safe conditions at work, time to rest, clarity with pay protections and benefits that reflect their contribution to the airline.”

Eastern Airlines operates as a scheduled carrier employing both U.S.-based and International-based Flight Attendants in Miami, New York, Ecuador, Guyana, and Venezuela. Ninety-four percent of Flight Attendants who cast a ballot voted to join AFA-CWA.

The National Mediation Board oversees union elections in air and rail sectors, and today certified the vote. Now, Eastern Flight Attendants will select leadership and begin negotiating their first contract.

“When we strengthen jobs at one airline—no matter how large or small—we strengthen our workforce and our entire industry,” Nelson said. “Eastern Flight Attendants will choose the issues that matter most to them, and they’ll have the full backing and support of AFA. For more than 70 years our union has fought to make flying a career we could be proud of. We stick together because we understand that securing better conditions at any airline builds power for all of us.”
