Freedom, human rights, and self-determination are on the ballot
October 18, 2024 - Choice and self-determination are why we formed our union. We organized to define our careers, keep our personal choices as our own - not the government’s or airline management’s - and lift up our role in saving lives as aviation’s first responders. Our first demands as a union were seniority-based scheduling, to stop managers from attempting to pressure us to trade sex or sexual exploitation for schedules.
The right for each of us to make our own choices about our jobs, our bodies, and our futures is fundamental to our power at the bargaining table and respect on the job. That includes the right to protect safe, legal options for anyone who needs reproductive healthcare. Not everyone will make the same choices, and AFA's members hold a wide range of personal beliefs. But this is about our safety and our freedom. We cannot work if we are not safe.
Kamala Harris has promised to restore Roe v. Wade to ensure access to reproductive care for everyone who needs it and the ability for doctors to give lifesaving care to their patients. Meanwhile, the other candidate has said women and doctors should be punished for reproductive healthcare and bragged that he ended the right of women to choose what to do with our own bodies. We need a President who affirmatively supports our right to self-determination and works to make good on the promise of liberty and justice for all. That is the foundation upon which we protest corporate greed and fight for economic justice.
