Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendants to Take Protest to Hawaiian Airlines Board as Talks Stall and Company Demands More Cuts

HONOLULU (January 31, 2020) – On Tuesday, February 4th, Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), will take their fight for a fair contract to the Hawaiian Airlines Board of Directors.

For the first time, Hawaiian’s Flight Attendants will picket the quarterly Board of Directors meeting to bring their concerns to the airlines’ top leadership. Mediated talks have stalled and management’s last proposal at the bargaining table went backwards and included new concessions.

Tuesday’s picketing comes as Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendants’ ongoing negotiations with management have surpassed the three-year mark. Last November, the Flight Attendants’ voted 99.9% to authorize a strike. The vote marked the highest support for authorizing a strike in the history of the entire union.

Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendants’ pay has fallen in comparison with the rest of the industry while the cost of living and medical expenses continue to rise. Management seeks cuts in medical insurance, staffing onboard the aircraft, and work rules in exchange for pay increases. Effectively forcing Flight Attendants to pay for their own raises through concessions. All this while the company is solidly profitable, and many Flight Attendants have not seen a raise in over 3 years.

The Flight Attendants will also be handing out informational leaflets to Hawaiian Airlines passengers across the system on Tuesday as they continue their fight for a contract that recognizes their contribution to the success of the airline.
