Honor Our Veterans
November 11, 2020 — We observe this Veterans Day with deep gratitude for those who have served and those who continue to serve, especially our own AFA member veterans and all of their families who support them. We are honored to fly with our veterans. #VeteransDay
Happy Veteran's Day.
AFA is proud to support the Union Veterans Council, AFL-CIO that brings working-class veterans together to speak out on the issues that impact us most, especially the need for good jobs and a strong, fully funded and staffed Veterans Administration. We owe it to our Veterans to ensure their rights to a good job and good healthcare are secure with union contracts and the rights of working people to safe workplaces and an equal voice in our democracy.
That means we continue to fight to extend the Payroll Support Program to get everyone back to work with healthcare and recovery that puts #WorkersFirst. This effort is an example of the commitment we must demonstrate every day to our veterans who have fought for us. They did not make this sacrifice with love for country to have the people of our country hurting during a worldwide crisis. We must continue to demand our government do the right thing and secure relief for the working people and essential workers of our country.
Unions often have a large number of Veterans among our ranks as working class people make up the vast majority of our military ranks. Our good friends and union family of the United Mine Workers of America released this video in observance of Veterans Day. President Roberts is a veteran himself and we are grateful for his message in honor of those who have served and the solidarity he and his union have shown us in fighting for good jobs and secure retirement for our veterans and all the people our service members dedicated their lives to protect. His video message is especially poignant as he encourages us to come together and recognize “we are all Americans.” Thank you, President Roberts, for your service and your leadership.
