Update on Prop 65 Lawsuit: Contaminated Uniforms at Envoy, Piedmont, PSA, and AA

Update on Prop 65 Lawsuit: Contaminated Uniforms at Envoy, Piedmont, PSA, and AA

April 19, 2019 — Last year AFA together with one our members filed a lawsuit against the uniform manufacturers Twill Hill and Aramark, and American Airlines.

The Proposition 65 (Prop 65) lawsuit was filed on June 29, 2018, in Alameda County Superior Court in Oakland, California. The case names uniform suppliers TwinHill and Aramark, their suppliers Tailored Brands and PVH, and American Airlines (AA) as defendants This amended complaint was filed on February 23, 2019, and can be downloaded view here. The wholly-owned regionals are not explicitly named because AA makes the uniform decisions for regional Flight Attendants, but AFA Flight Attendants at PSA, Piedmont, and Envoy will still be affected by the outcome of this case because you wear the same uniforms.

Update on Our Fight for 10

April 12, 2019 — In the midst of persistent attacks on working people and our unions from the White House, Congress, Statehouses, and in the courts, AFA-CWA members were widely recognized for our success as the only aviation stakeholder to achieve our priorities in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018. It took tremendous effort to achieve commonsense rest improvements, fatigue mitigation, no knives or voice calls on planes, cabin air quality study, evacuation standards with new cabin environment and staffing issues, and so much more.

Alaska Airlines v. Schurke: A Victory for Flight Attendants and Airline Workers!

April 5, 2019 — On Monday, we won a major victory for application of state benefits for Flight Attendants. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear Alaska Airline’s appeal of the Ninth Circuit’s decision in Alaska v. Schurke -- meaning the Ninth Circuit's decision in our favor stands. In Schurke, the entire U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (11 Judges) ruled that an Alaska Airlines Flight Attendant could use her accrued leave to care for a sick child under Washington State’s Family Care Act even though the collective bargaining agreement did not provide that benefit. This is a huge win for airline workers!
