As United Airline becomes the latest airline to finally wave goodbye to its iconic Boeing 747-400, the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) salutes the much-loved aircraft with an emotional farewell. And while we’ll all remember the affectionately nicknamed ‘Jumbo jet’ for the good times, AFA has also paid tribute to the work of its members during some of the tragic events that have befallen the aircraft.

November 7, 2017 — Today, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) bids farewell to the Boeing 747, affectionately known as "Queen of the Skies," and recalls the safety advancements, heroic actions amid tragic events and personal connections aboard our first and most distinct jumbo jet. More than twice as large as the next largest aircraft when it took its first flight in 1969, the history of the B747 is interwoven with the history of modern aviation, and the history of aviation safety and security.
