Huge Turnout in Chicago for AFA Air Wisconsin Flight Attendants

Thank you to everyone who came out to ORD yesterday to support AFA Air Wisconsin Flight Attendants! Almost 100 people demonstrated to pressure Air Wisconsin management and United Airlines to negotiate a fair contract. Air Wisconsin Flight Attendants were joined by Flight Attendants from United, Frontier, Spirit, Envoy, AFA International Officers, UNITE HERE!, CWA 4900, ALPA, AFGE, DSA Fox Valley, NABET, UAW, Chicago Federation of Labor, Chicago Airport Police, and even passengers.

April 12, 2019 — In the midst of persistent attacks on working people and our unions from the White House, Congress, Statehouses, and in the courts, AFA-CWA members were widely recognized for our success as the only aviation stakeholder to achieve our priorities in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018. It took tremendous effort to achieve commonsense rest improvements, fatigue mitigation, no knives or voice calls on planes, cabin air quality study, evacuation standards with new cabin environment and staffing issues, and so much more.

Alaska Airlines v. Schurke: A Victory for Flight Attendants and Airline Workers!

April 5, 2019 — On Monday, we won a major victory for application of state benefits for Flight Attendants. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear Alaska Airline’s appeal of the Ninth Circuit’s decision in Alaska v. Schurke -- meaning the Ninth Circuit's decision in our favor stands. In Schurke, the entire U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (11 Judges) ruled that an Alaska Airlines Flight Attendant could use her accrued leave to care for a sick child under Washington State’s Family Care Act even though the collective bargaining agreement did not provide that benefit. This is a huge win for airline workers!

2Hot2Cold Data

During the summer of 2018, AFA launched the 2Hot2Cold App to collect data on extreme temperatures onboard to pressure the Department of Transportation to establish temperature standards in the aircraft cabin. We will update this page the first week of every month with new data. 

as of August 14, 2023:

  • More than 4,025 extreme temperature reports have been made through the app. 
  • 88% of the reports came from Flight Attendants.

March 28, 2019 — Airline and railway workers’ ability to choose and maintain union representation and our contracts is under attack. The majority members of the National Mediation Board (NMB) are proposing a rule, contrary to the purpose of the statute, to encourage airlines to run decertification campaigns to end union contracts.
