Washington, DC – New leaders took the reins at the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) today. Elected in April at AFA’s annual convention, Sara Nelson became AFA International President, while Debora Sutor filled Sara's former position as International Vice President, and Kevin Creighan entered his third full term as International Secretary-Treasurer.

The world’s largest Flight Attendant union, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), was joined today by the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) as well as the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) in calling on the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) to deny an application for a foreign air carrier permit submitted by Norwegian Air International (NAI).

Washington, DC – As record breaking profits for the new American Airlines were announced earlier today, Flight Attendants represented by Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (US Airways) and the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (American) together met with management to submit an opening proposal for a single contract covering the combined workgroup. Today’s negotiations were part of an agreement ratified in February 2014 that outlined a specific process in which a single contract would be reached.

Washington, DC – At a recent meeting of the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF), the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), the world’s largest Flight Attendant union, introduced a resolution calling for a full investigation of Norwegian Air International’s (NAI) labor standards and business practices. The initiative, which was adopted by the ITF, called upon the U.S. Department of Transportation, among others, to seek additional information about NAI’s labor plans in order to protect airline labor from the adverse consequences of circumventing international labor laws.

Washington, DC – Piedmont Airlines Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), today voted in favor of a new contract that includes pay increases and work rule improvements for the nearly 200 regional Flight Attendants. The agreement was reached with the assistance of the National Mediation Board (NMB).

The bi-partisan bill, H.R. 4368, was introduced by Representatives Michael Grimm (R-NY), Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), David Joyce (R-OH), and Daniel Lipinski (D-IL). It serves as companion legislation to Senate bill S. 1008. AFA issued the following statement, commending the lawmakers who are taking sound action for aviation security and refusing to forget why there is a ban on knives in the passenger cabin.
