Washington, DC – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) today issued the following statement of support after the Communications Workers of America (CWA) filed for a representation election for the nearly 10,000 passenger service agents at American Airlines:

“We applaud the determination of American agents to protect their futures through strong union representation. By joining the nearly one million member-strong CWA, American Airlines passenger service agents are taking the right step in preserving their careers.

Washington, DC – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) won a ground-breaking legal victory this week when the U.S. Court of Appeals in Chicago strongly affirmed AFA’s position that the McCaskill-Bond guarantee of fair and equitable seniority protection applies for all those affected by airline mergers.

Washington, DC – Alaska Airlines Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), this week opened negotiations with management on a collective bargaining agreement covering the nearly 3,000 Flight Attendants at the carrier.

National Mediation Board Today Mails Voting Instructions to Nearly 2,300 Flight Attendants

Washington, DC – Today, the voting process begins for nearly 2,300 Atlantic Southeast Airlines and ExpressJet Flight Attendants in an election to determine union representation.  Voting instructions were mailed by the National Mediation Board (NMB) today and Flight Attendants at the new ExpressJet are excited to unify in the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) in just three weeks when the voting results are announced on December 21, 2011. AFA already represents approximately 1,200 Flight Attendants at Atlantic Southeast Airlines.

Washington, DC – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) International President Veda Shook issued the following statement today after AMR, the parent company of American Eagle and American Airlines, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization:

“As details emerge regarding the restructuring of American Eagle and American Airlines, AFA is prepared to represent the best interests of the American Eagle Flight Attendants. The AFA leadership at American Eagle is fully engaged in responding to the bankruptcy filing and, along with our financial and legal advisors, will monitor developments closely. We also are committed to working closely with the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, coordinating efforts as we protect our Flight Attendant careers.

Washington, D.C. -- The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA and the Communications Workers of America condemns the decision by the National Mediation Board denying charges of management interference in the November 2010 union representation election.  It is a sad day indeed that it took the NMB one year to do nothing. This is not democracy, not in outcome nor process.

National Mediation Board Announces Dates for Union Election
 
Washington, DC – The National Mediation Board (NMB) today announced the voting schedule for Atlantic Southeast and ExpressJet Flight Attendants to determine union representation. Balloting instructions will be sent to the over 2,300 Flight Attendants on November 30 and voting will close December 21, 2011. The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA) already represents approximately 1,200 Flight Attendants at Atlantic Southeast Airlines.

AFA Participates in First of Many Cross-Country Flights with Biofuel Mix

Washington, DC –The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), the world's largest Flight Attendant union, applauded Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air and United/Continental this week as all three airlines launched commercial flights fueled by a mix of alternative biofuels. AFA leaders were selected to take part in today's first biofuel flight on Alaska Airlines from Seattle to Washington, DC.
