The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) president at Alaska Airlines, Jeffrey Peterson, released a statement today following news of a cabin air quality lawsuit filed by Alaska Flight Attendants:

Tomorrow marks the two-year anniversary of the Blue Lightning Initiative launched by the Department of Transportation and Department of Homeland Security and managed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The Blue Lightning Initiative enlists workers in all modes of transportation to take part in a national effort to uncover modern day slavery, bring victims to safety, and apprehend offenders.

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) calls on the aviation industry to join forces to abolish human trafficking on our planes. The union is raising awareness and calling for mandatory training for all Flight Attendants to recognize and report human trafficking.

Flight Attendant leaders from 18 airlines, representatives of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA), unanimously adopted a resolution in support of Envoy Air Flight Attendants. Envoy is a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Airlines Group (AAG). The AFA Flight Attendant leaders from across the aviation industry called on American CEO Doug Parker and Envoy Air President Pedro Fabregas to work with AFA to mitigate the impact of several Flight Attendant base closures on the hard-working Envoy Flight Attendants.

Washington, D.C. Sara Nelson, International President of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, today sent this letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid calling for “bipartisan leadership in support of stamping out modern day slavery around the world.”  Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) introduced an amendment to deny expedited consideration of any trade agreement with a country on the State Department’s list of Tier III human trafficking to the Senate “Fast Track” bill; his amendment was adopted by a strong bipartisan vote.

Alaska Airlines Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), issued a statement today in support of Alaska Airlines contract workforce in their fight for $15 an hour and a union.

Washington, DC (April 30, 2015) – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) applauds the group of bipartisan members of Congress who sent a letter today urging the U.S. government to open consultations with Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, following a recent investigation that revealed Gulf states have been providing massive subsidies to their state-owned airlines, a direct violation of the Open Skies Agreement.

Washington, D.C. (April 16, 2015) – Today the presidents of the Air Line Pilots Association International, the Allied Pilots Association, the Association of Flight Attendants, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, Communications Workers of America, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the Transport Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO sent a letter to Congress urging members to call on the U.S. government to open consultations with Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

As an outspoken and long-term advocate for workers’ rights, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), a member of the Partnership for Open and Fair Skies, is highlighting a new analysis released by Georgetown University professor Dr. Rob Britton, titled, “Reconsidering the U.S.-UAE Aviation Relationship.”  The white paper details the $42 billion subsidies and other unfair benefits Qatar, Etihad and Emirates airlines received from their respective governments, clearly violating the Open Skies agreement.
