Washington, DC - The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) issued the following statement today after Pinnacle Airlines, which merged with Mesaba Airlines in January, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization:

“As the certified representative for Mesaba Flight Attendants, AFA will use its standing to participate in the bankruptcy process and ensure that the Flight Attendants’ rights are protected throughout Pinnacle’s restructuring.

Washington, DC – Flight Attendants represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), from each of the pre-merger airlines, US Airways and former America West, voted against a tentative agreement offered by US Airways management. Ninety percent of the over 6,700 combined Flight Attendants participated in the voting process.

Washington, DC – PSA Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), today ratified a five-year agreement that includes pay increases and quality of life enhancements for the over 300 Flight Attendants. PSA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of US Airways Group, Inc. and operates as a US Airways Express carrier.

Washington, DC – American Eagle Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), today issued the following statement from AFA President Robert Barrow after recent reports regarding the future of the San Juan base:

One-on-One Meeting Emphasizes Flight Attendants’ Role as First Responders
 
Washington, DC – Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) International President Veda Shook today engaged in a meaningful dialogue with Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano on several aviation security issues that directly affect the valuable role of Flight Attendants as first responders and the last line of defense on board the aircraft.

Flight Attendants Petition Management and Ask NMB to Define Negotiations End Date
 
Washington, DC – Spirit Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), fed up with management delays and regressive proposals, officially requested a process that would encourage reaching an agreement or a strike deadline.  On Friday, AFA asked the National Mediation Board (NMB) to declare that negotiations are at an impasse and requested a proffer of arbitration.  This step is required prior to setting a 30-day cooling-off period, the time during which intense negotiations typically take place and lead to an agreement or a strike.

Washington, DC – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) at Hawaiian Airlines today announced a tentative agreement with management. The agreement was reached with the assistance of the National Mediation Board (NMB) utilizing a “Facilitated Problem Solving” approach to negotiations. While the NMB’s facilitation ended prior to an agreement being reached, its services enabled the parties to close out the remaining issues without direct involvement by the NMB.

One Step Closer To Completing Merger

Chicago, IL –Flight Attendants at United Airlines, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), today ratified a contract covering the 15,000 pre-merger United Flight Attendants.  An overwhelming majority of Flight Attendants, 88.5 percent, participated in the vote and 70.4 percent solidly cast their ballots in favor of the agreement.  This agreement was reached on January 7, 2012, utilizing an innovative process modeled on the National Mediation Board’s Expedited Mediation Program. This is the first post-bankruptcy contract for United Flight Attendants.
