Flight Attendant Union: Norwegian Air International Would Have Detrimental Impact to American Jobs and Economy

Washington, DC (February 8, 2017) — The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA) International President Sara Nelson issued the following statement after Sean Spicer’s comments on Norwegian Air International (NAI) at yesterday's White House press briefing.

“President Trump has repeatedly stated that he will put American jobs first. Norwegian Air International has refused to make any legally-binding commitments to hiring American crews. Sean Spicer's comments conflict with the President's promises to American workers. Norwegian’s ‘flag-of-convenience’ model for its NAI subsidiary changes the rules to outsource American jobs. Pure and simple. It's the exact same scheme that sent 100,000 U.S. shipping jobs to countries with the lowest labor standards. But this time, 300,000 American jobs and the U.S. aviation industry are on the line. We look forward to President Trump taking action to enforce Open Skies Agreements and protect good U.S. Aviation jobs."
