August 30, 2019 — AFA sends our love to the family of Captain Al Haynes. His heroic efforts in Sioux City, Iowa, just over 30 years ago, and throughout his flying career, leave us a lasting legacy of safety in flight. We will honor him in our work for safe skies every day.
AFA United Flight Attendant Susan White, and member of the heroic Flight 232 crew, left this beautiful tribute for Captain Haynes:
“It saddens me to say goodbye to this very special man that I have loved for 30 years. He saved my life and so many others. We called our crew our 232 family because we shared a special bond, even vacationing together for several years. He was our leader, forever our hero. The entire flight attendant crew had the honor of working Al’s retirement flight per his request. That was such a highlight in my career.
Al Haynes leaves behind an amazing legacy in aviation and will be deeply missed! RIP Captain Haynes!”
