AFA Testifies in the Senate on the Safe Return to Air Travel

April 24, 2021 — AFA President Sara Nelson testified last Wednesday before the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Aviation Safety, Operations & Innovation in a hearing titled “Prepare for Takeoff: America’s Safe Return to Air Travel,” on the success of the Payroll Support Program (PSP), the required actions for safety of aviation, extending the mask mandate, and more.

During the hearing AFA called for the TSA enforcement of the federal mask mandate, set to expire on May 11th, to be extended. "We are still in the middle of the crisis," said AFA President Sara Nelson. "It's important that we stay the course here with the mask policies, and all of our diligent efforts to make the vaccine accessible around the world.''

Additionally, we continue to encourage airlines to maintain modified food and beverage services. Passengers should wait until Flight Attendants have passed their row before lowering masks to eat or drink.
