AFA-CWA Statement on Minnesota Political Violence
June 14, 2025 — Statement from AFA-CWA President Sara Nelson on the tragic politically motivated attacks in Minnesota:
Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of those targeted by this attack, and the entire Minnesota community. We mourn the loss of Leader Melissa Hortman and her husband as we pray for healing for Sen. John Hoffman and his wife.
AFA members serve alongside the targeted lawmakers in the Minnesota legislature and live in these communities. We feel the pain sorrow of this with them. We are mobilizing to support all affected members, including difficulty with going to work in the midst of these conditions.
AFA EAP is mobilized and ready to assist all members while local representatives interface with management to address any challenges. Call 800-424-2406 for confidential assistance from AFA EAP.
Political violence is an attack on democracy. It cannot be normalized or tolerated. We denounce this violence and those who promote violence to achieve political outcomes. Those walking in peaceful protest must remain vigilant and supportive of one another.
In crisis, we have come together in solidarity to overcome hate, maintain safety, and uphold the freedoms we have through mutual respect and rule of law. We must redouble our commitment to solidarity now more than ever.
