Support Turkey and Syrian Workers
February 17, 2023 - Our union is a member of the International Transport Federation (ITF) that brings together transportation workers and unions around the world.
Our siblings and their families, including AFA Flight Attendant families, in Turkey and Syria suffered devastating earthquakes over the last week and half. Nearly 45,000 people have died and thousands of people have lost their homes. After 11 days, some are still being pulled from the rubble alive. The earthquake is estimated to have caused $84.1 billion worth of damage, making it the fourth-costliest earthquake on record.
The purpose of the fund is to provide:
- Immediate solidarity and humanitarian support in Turkey and Syria including food, blankets, logistics;
- support to address mid-term needs in both countries to strengthen unions capacity to rebuild and recover.
This is an evolving situation, and ITF is in close contact with unions to see how we can continue to support as appropriate.
