Take Action for a Permanent Ban on Knives

Last year we won a major battle to reverse national security policy and keep knives out of the passenger cabin. Let's make sure we never have to fight that battle again!

We now have a bill in both the House and Senate for a permanent ban on knives in the aircraft cabin.

Yesterday Representatives Michael Grimm (R-NY), Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), David Joyce (R-OH), and Daniel Lipinski (D-IL), introduced H.R. 4368 As a companion to Senate bill S. 1008, the Keep Knives Out of Our Skies Act. If passed and signed by the President the law would require that knives remain permanently on the prohibited items list for airport security.

Due to our relentless work, everyone except the knife lobby agrees on this issue. Now is the time to make it law. Call and write now. Let's get this done.

Leading the fight against the knife lobby a year ago and with a full-on mobilization of AFA members, our union was joined by passengers, law enforcement, airport ground staff, security experts, airlines and our fellow crewmembers.hahn-waters.jpg

We ultimately claimed victory over the ill-advised change, but we know that this threat could rear its ugly head yet again without targeted legislation. We now have a knife-specific bill that would create a permanent ban – and we must urge our Representatives to support it.

Call Now for a Permanent Ban on Knives

Call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Representative, or find contact information at house.gov.

Tell them: “I am a Flight Attendant and a constituent. I’m calling to make sure knives stay out of the aircraft cabin once and for all. I urge my Representative to co-sponsor the newly introduced H.R. 4368: “Keep Knives Out of Our Skies Act” to place a permanent ban on knives in the passenger cabin. Thank you.”
