United AFA Pickets Headquarters as Management Announces $1.5 Billion in Stock Buybacks
October 18, 2024 - United AFA picketed Willis Tower this week after management announced $1.5 billion in stock buybacks for the first time since the pandemic while delaying much needed improvements in a new contract for Flight Attendants.
Airlines received billions of dollars in aid to support them during the pandemic on the condition that they don’t do stock buybacks. United Flight Attendants are the last work group at the airline without a contract. Instead of investing in Aviation’s First Responders, who kept United afloat during the pandemic, management is lining the pockets of shareholders and executives. It’s absurd and unacceptable.
“United management could end the games and agree to the contract Flight Attendants have earned tomorrow. But instead, they are choosing to jump back in the greed pool with this century’s robber barons. Make no mistake, United Airlines Flight Attendants are ready to do whatever it takes to get the contract we deserve,” said Sara Nelson and AFA United MEC President Ken Diaz.
