Flight Attendant Union Urges Swift Confirmation of Marty Walsh for Labor Secretary

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 8, 2021) — Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) International President Sara Nelson released the following statement after President-Elect Biden’s nomination of Mayor Marty Walsh for Labor Secretary:

“The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA congratulates Mayor Marty Walsh on his nomination for Secretary of Labor and urges his swift confirmation to lead the Labor Department at this critical moment for the American workforce and our battered economy.

“In Secretary-designate Walsh, President-elect Biden has chosen a leader with a lifelong, bone-deep commitment to workers and the labor movement, borne from his own experience growing up in a union family, working in a union job and serving as a union leader.

“As Mayor of Boston, Walsh worked to expand workers rights, to give workers new tools in the workplace, and to make all of our unions stronger and more reflective of today’s American workforce. Walsh knows that when workers have power, our families, our economy and our democracy are stronger.

“This is our chance to chart a new course for our country, to place the controls in the strong hands of American workers, and look to the horizon. Let's get to work.”
