US Airways Express Flight Attendants Picket As Strike Looms At Piedmont Airlines

Washington, DC – Piedmont Airlines Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), are delivering a strong message that the reality of a strike at the US Airways Express carrier is drawing closer at airports in New Bern, NC; Roanoke, VA; Charlottesville, VA; and Harrisburg, PA.

Travelling this week to major airports that Piedmont services, Flight Attendants are conducting passenger leafleting to inform travelers that while Flight Attendants have been working to reach an agreement that is beneficial to crewmembers and to the airline, management continues to make excuses.

"Piedmont Flight Attendants want a contract that enables us to share in the success of our airline. We have been key partners for US Airways and Piedmont for years and we fully expect that those efforts be recognized," said Anita Jwanouskos, AFA Piedmont President.

Piedmont Flight Attendants turned out a 98 percent strike vote authorization, clearly demonstrating determination to do whatever it takes to get a contract that reflects their contributions to the airline. Piedmont Flight Attendants have been in mediation with management since August 2011 and have asked the National Mediation Board (NMB) to release the parties into a 30-day "cooling-off" period. The release could come at any time. At the end of the cooling-off period the Flight Attendants can begin CHAOS™ strike actions. CHAOS stands for Create Havoc Around Our System™, and includes a series of targeted, unannounced strikes.

Piedmont, a wholly owned subsidiary of US Airways Group, Inc., is the only carrier in Salisbury, MD; Hilton Head, SC; Florence, SC; Williamsport, PA; and New Haven, CT.
