Norse Atlantic Airways Flight Attendants File to Officially Join the Flight Attendant Union

Union Cards Submitted to Federal Agency on July 27

Washington, DC (July 27, 2022) — The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), on behalf of Norse Airlines Flight Attendants, filed on Tuesday for union representation. Norse Flight Attendants demonstrated unanimous support for AFA with signed authorization cards asking for certification of AFA as their union.

Norse Atlantic Airways filed a letter of support for the Flight Attendant’s request for official recognition and certification by the National Mediation Board (NMB).

“We are excited for Norse Flight Attendants to officially join us and immediately raise the standards for all Flight Attendants,” said Sara Nelson, AFA International President. “Norse Flight Attendants' hard work and commitment to our careers is paying off. Soon these Flight Attendants will be able to vote on the contract that includes the highest starting pay of any U.S. airline.”

AFA negotiated a pre-hire agreement with Norse management in May 2021. The full contract, subject to ratification after certification of the union, includes industry-leading starting pay and job protections, healthcare, and a 401k among other key benefits.

The NMB is the federal agency that oversees union representation elections for air and rail workers. Once the NMB verifies the signed union authorization cards requesting AFA as the representative, the Board can officially certify AFA as the collective bargaining representative.

Norse Atlantic Airways is a Norwegian low-cost, long-haul airline headquartered in Arendal, Norway. Founded in February 2021, the airline operates a fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft between Europe and North America. The inaugural flight took off on June 14, 2022, from Oslo Gardermoen Airport to JFK with soon-to-be AFA Flight Attendants proudly operating the flight. Norse employs nearly 250 U.S.-based Flight Attendants with crew bases in JFK and FLL, and expects to continue to grow and increase Flight Attendant jobs in the U.S.
