Solidarity Alert! AFA Supports Flight Attendants at British Airways Mixed Fleet

August 15, 2017 — British Airways “mixed fleet” cabin crew, who are members of the ITF affiliated Unite the Union (UK), began their latest phase of strike action against the company in July. Over 3,200 workers, who operate long and short haul flights out of London Heathrow Airport, are fighting poverty pay and the discipline against about 1,400 colleagues involved in previous collective bargaining action.

AFA Supports Flight Attendants at British Airways Mixed FleetThe Association of Flight Attendants-CWA stands in solidarity with members of Mixed Fleet Unite in their fight for fair and reasonable pay that reflects the difficult, valuable and safety critical front line role they play on board British Airways flights.

The strike has already turned into one of the longest running industrial disputes in the world aviation industry, but the union reports gaining public and political support.

Flight Attendants have taken a total of 59 days of industrial action since January and are in the middle of 24 more days, which began August 2, 2017. This unprecedented action is a testament to the workers who refuse to be bullied or intimidated by their employer. In order to break the strike and undermine the efforts of these Flight Attendants fighting poverty wages, British Airways is now flying in Qatar Airways planes, pilots and crew on these routes. We find it outrageous that British Airways is prepared to use an airline that has breached international standards on labor and human rights.

Stand in solidarity with Flight Attendants at British Airways Mixed Fleet.

We will update members on actions AFA is coordinating in support of the strike. Stay tuned.
