AFA-CWA President Sara Nelson to Join Hawaiian Flight Attendants for Negotiations Next Week

WASHINGTON (February 20, 2020) – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) announced today that International President Sara Nelson will travel to Honolulu next week to support Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendants in their negotiations with Hawaiian Airlines management.

Hawaiian Flight Attendants voted 99.9% to authorize a strike, if necessary. Recently, Flight Attendants picketed the quarterly Board of Directors meeting in hopes that their concerns would be heard by the airlines’ top leadership. Nelson's arrival in Hawaii supports the Flight Attendant actions and signals to the airline the critical juncture of the negotiations.

Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendants’ pay has fallen in comparison with the rest of the industry while the cost of living and medical expenses continue to rise. Despite the Flight Attendants’ struggles, management is still seeking cuts in medical insurance and 401(k) and work rules in exchange for minimal pay increases.

Nelson will hold a press conference with Hawaiian AFA leaders after negotiations on February 27th. Details will be released next week.
