Motion: All-In to Preserve Mine Worker Pensions and Healthcare
For the AFL-CIO to redouble efforts to pass the legislation (Miners Protection Act, S.175/H.R. 179) to preserve the pensions and healthcare of the United Mine Workers of America.
Further, that we show-case the bi-partisan support already on record for the legislation, and
Further, that we use the strength and connections of our Federation and each affiliate of the AFL-CIO to call on the leadership of the House and Senate to stop obstructing a vote to keep America's promise to the Mine Workers who have given blood, sweat, tears, their lives, families and communities to power America and build our American labor movement that provided opportunity, respect and good jobs for all Americans, and
Further, that we should utilize AFL-CIO communications and all of our affiliate communications to inform members that:
- we leave no worker behind,
- we will not allow obstructionists to hurt people and deny results especially on issues where we can all agree,
- this is about the health of all pensions, and
Finally, that we use this issue as a platform to celebrate our labor history, where we come from and why we continue to organize for our future.
