Flight Attendants at Breeze Airways Announce Union Organizing Campaign with AFA

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 9, 2024) — Today, Flight Attendants at Breeze Airways announced their campaign to form a union with the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA), joining more than 50,000 cabin crew at 19 airlines. Nearly 600 Flight Attendants at seven bases make up the workgroup.

“Breeze Flight Attendants deserve the certainty of a union contract and respect on the job,” said AFA International President Sara Nelson. “We’re proud to welcome them to our Flight Attendant Union, and we’re ready to help them secure everything they deserve.”

Flight Attendants at Breeze have faced a constantly-changing set of workplace rules, as well as significant issues with pay, hotel accommodations, insufficient work hours, drastically substandard pay for time away from base, and disrespectful treatment from management.

Breeze Flight Attendants will collect union authorization cards before filing for an election with the National Mediation Board (NMB) under the Railway Labor Act. The NMB is the federal agency that oversees union representation elections for air and rail workers.

Breeze Airways is a low-cost airline headquartered in Utah since launching operations in May 2021. The airline was founded by David Neeleman, who previously co-founded Morris Air, WestJet, JetBlue, and Azul Linhas Aereas.
