AFA Statement on FAA Leadership Changes

Washington, D.C. (June 9, 2023) — The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO President Sara Nelson released the following statement on FAA leadership changes:

"We applaud President Biden for taking action to ensure we have leadership in place at the Federal Aviation Administration. We will do everything we can to support Polly Trottenberg as interim FAA Administrator and we are confident she will provide steady leadership with the assistance of Kathryn B. Thomson as Deputy Administrator, and Keith Washington as the agency’s acting chief of staff.

"We thank Administrator Nolen for his service and Flight Attendants will forever be grateful to him for bringing our 10 hour minimum rest rule to implementation.

"The President's interim leadership appointments are very good and we are eager to work closely with this leadership team led by Polly Trottenberg. We also know the importance of having permanent leadership at the FAA. We support the urgent efforts of the White House to nominate a leader who can meet this need with the confidence of aviation labor."
