Washington, DC – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), the world’s largest Flight Attendant union, commended the Obama Administration for efforts announced today to enhance our nation’s response to Ebola at home and abroad. AFA has worked around the clock to ensure that Flight Attendant work as aviation’s first responders remains at the forefront of Ebola discussions. AFA has provided specific recommendations to help protect the health of all airline workers and the travelling public.

“We commend President Obama and his team for their efforts to improve our nation’s response to Ebola. AFA continues to work with government and industry officials for the best protections, equipment, training, briefings and supportive response for affected workers. AFA’s checklist has been central to discussions with the Administration, members of Congress and U.S. airlines. We take this seriously for the protection of our crews and also to ensure public confidence in our airlines,” said Sara Nelson, AFA International President.

AFA has created an online Ebola Resource Center for Flight Attendants that contains up-to-date information and helpful guidance.

“AFA continues to regularly communicate with the White House, DOT, OSHA, CDC and FAA to address our concerns and improve communicable disease prevention and response. Along with leaders like Senator Sherrod Brown who has urged the White House to collaborate with frontline transportation workers on establishing policies that help address and mitigate risks, AFA remains focused on effective worker safety and health precautions in the event of a communicable disease or epidemic,” added Nelson.

The Association of Flight Attendants is the world’s largest Flight Attendant union. Focused 100 percent on Flight Attendant issues, AFA has been the leader in advancing the Flight Attendant profession for 69 years. Serving as the voice for Flight Attendants in the workplace, in the aviation industry, in the media and on Capitol Hill, AFA has transformed the Flight Attendant profession by raising wages, benefits and working conditions. Nearly 60,000 Flight Attendants come together to form AFA, part of the 700,000-member strong Communications Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO. Visit us at www.afacwa.org
