Maintaining Federal Security Screening at All Airports

August 2, 2018 — CNN is reporting that the TSA is considering eliminating passenger screening at more than 150 small and medium-sized airports, serving aircraft with 60 seats or fewer, across the US. According to the report, the proposal states "passengers and luggage arriving from these smaller airports would be screened when they arrive at major airports for connecting flights instead of the current practice of joining the already screened population at the larger airport."

The Commercial Aircraft Vulnerability and Mitigation Program (CAVM) was established in 1990 in response to the directives of the President's Commission on Aviation Security and Terrorism and the Aviation Security Improvement Act of 1990. The CAVM program was reiterated after September 11, 2001 in the Aviation Security and Transportation Act of 2001.

Admit it, you don’t pay attention to those preflight safety announcements anymore. I don’t, either. “Now, we request your full attention as the flight attendants demonstrate the safety features of this aircraft” goes in one ear and out the other.
